At the conference, the dignitaries present were Nikolai Vitti, superintendent of the Duval County, Timothy Odegard, Murfree Chair of Excellence in Dyslexic Studies at Middle Tennessee State University, Dr. Sally Shaywitz, co-director of the Yale Centre for Dyslexia & Creativity and author of the book Overcoming Dyslexia. The event was opened by Arkansas Education Commissioner Johnny Key; Senator Joyce Elliott, D-Little Rock; and U.S. Representative Bruce Westerman, the member of the Bipartisan Congressional Dyslexia Caucus R-Ark.

Education Department’s interim assistant commissioner Stacy Smith said,

“Schools are required to implement the dyslexia law that requires them to have an interventionist and an identified program. It also requires them to have screening for their students. This is still a very new law as far as being implemented in schools, and schools are thirsty for professional development in this area.”

Giving the reference of one survey dyslexia specialist for the Arkansas Department of Education Vicki King told,

“State has not been required in the past to keep data on the number of students diagnosed with dyslexia. But the research shows us that about 20 percent of the population has the weakness in the phonological component of language. which if not addressed appropriately could end up being detrimental to their literacy development.”

Since there were over registration and organisers were forced to send back many participants. This has led the disappointment among many educators, vendors and parents who wanted to participate in the conference. Since the conference registration reached to its maximum limit, there was little scope for the remaining participants to join the event. However, the Arkansas Department of Education made sure people who wanted to participate in the conference did not miss any single bit of the event. So the decision was taken to telecast the event online so that who wanted to participate get live streaming of the conference.
