The venture is designing and developing some apps that will disrupt traditional business education by allowing every aspiring student to learn on demand and from anywhere they want. With the help of the apps developed by SmartUp, users will be able to easily understand the main elements of academic texts and also apply their knowledge to simulated corporate challenges and scenarios in real time directly from any mobile device.

SmartUp was established by the investors and entrepreneurs who founded the Britain-based flight search engine Skyscanner and the Pizza Express restaurant chain. The company has already gathered $1 million in funding for various sources like experienced start-up founders and private equity investors. The initiate, which is concentrating on educating entrepreneurs, is an instance of how technology is gradually entering the classrooms in business schools.

Recently, Australian Graduate School of Management (AGSM) of Australian School of Business at the University of NSW declared that it is planning to introduce online course material and allot Apple iPads to students in January 2015. This is part of their “ongoing strategies to improve utility and functionality of learning.”

Deputy Dean of the business school, Professor She added “The leaders studying in our programs are leaders in a digital world, and by facilitating learning [in] this way we are equipping them to deal with future trends in the workplace.”

The iPads will help to save course materials and assignments, offer quick access to recommended texts and enable the use of apps. Moreover, it will also help to develop e-portfolios and provide enhanced accessibility options for students with special needs. The school added in a statement that it plans to offer digital content to all members of AGSM by 2015.

Expansion Of Digital Learning

Many other B-schools like Hult International Business School, Mendoza College of Business, Georgia’s Robinson College of Business and Ashridge Business School have also offered iPads to students of specific programmes. These devices are preloaded textbooks and case studies.

According to International Data Corporation (IDC), an US market research group, 702,000 iPads and 715,500 low-cost laptops were shipped by Google to high schools during the 3rd quarter of 2014. Over 4 four million tablets and PCs were sold to American colleges and high schools throughout that period, said IDC. Apart from these, MOOCs are also becoming widely popular among learners across the globe.
